When I was younger, I used to go to the Model Railroad Hobby Show at the Big E every year with my dad. This year, I decided to take my dad for his birthday. It was a lot of fun, and man, the technology is amazing nowadays! It even inspired us to dig out our old N-Scale trainset from my parents’ basement. Photographing the Model Railroads proved to be more difficult than I had expected. The lighting was fairly dim, and of course, I didn’t have my tripod. I also didn’t want to resort to electronic flash, because that would just kill the shadows and detail. I still managed to shoot a few pictures that look good. Let me know what you think!
This is an excellent series.
it’s really calling to me for some reason, but I can’t put my finger on why that is. haha
Thank you! Even if you can’t figure out why, I’m glad you like it! Haha
Yesterday I did a little shooting with a piece of tissue paper over the flash, and for not having a way to defuse light professionally, it worked pretty well for a cheap quick alternative. I’m thinking about trying to build some DIY lighting in my basement…
Really liked the fire & lone box car.
I wish I thought of that beforehand, haha. That’s a good tip tho James, thank you for the idea! There’s always next year’s show, right?
