A couple of weeks ago I went for a hike along the Metacomet Trail, up to Provin Mountain in Agawam, MA. While relaxing and enjoying the view at the top, we were visited by some Turkey Vultures. These birds get a bad rap, but they’re actually stunning creatures. Here’s a few pictures of some of the 6 Turkey Vultures who were hanging around us.

these birds are impressive! It must have been an incredible feeling to watch them:) Do they have anything to do with Turkey? I came back from Istanbul a couple of days ago and the name of the birds reminded me how fantastic time I had there:)
Hi Justyna, They really are impressive birds! The Turkey part of the name comes from the fact that their bald red heads and dark coloring resemble a Turkey. How long were you in Istanbul for? That’s one of the many places that I’d love to travel to. Thanks for stopping by, I hope to see you around again! Ryan
Thanks Ryan for your explanation, I searched for more photos of them and their red head combined with the rest of the body looks great:)
My plan was to stay in Istanbul for 7 days but due to the eruption of the volcano in Iceland I stayed 10 days. I was happy I could stay longer:) This city is so magical. I recommend to visit it!
Really some great detail in the feathers on these shots. Looks like a good time. Reminds me that I have some recent bird photos I need to post… James´s last blog ..Pomegranate Citrus Martini
@James – I was actually surprised I was able to capture as much detail in the feathers as I did. It was near sunset and I was worried a lot of the detail would drop out. The pictures are a bit more grainy than I would like, but I guess grain is better than no detail. I look forward to seeing your bird photos!
@Sire – Thanks Sire! I shot these with my Canon DSLR. DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. If you ever shot film photography, chances are at some point you shot a 35mm SLR at some point. DSLR’s are pretty much their digital equivalent. They’re more complex than a point-and-shoot, but you the options are endless.
Wow, I really love the fact that all the blogs you have posted which I have read are all photographs and information you have carried out yourself. This makes your website much more interesting as I get to witness and become inspired by your personal touch!
Hi Emma, Thank you for visiting and I am glad you enjoyed the stories! I will definitely be adding more in the future so I hope to see you visit again!

They are amazing creatures! Not everyone can appreciate them, though.
I’d be happy I could stay longer on vacation too, haha!

You took some amazing shots Ryan. I’m guessing you used something other than a point and shoot camera?
