And welcome back! As usual, there are countless new projects, thoughts, and ideas on my mind. The end of 2010 kept me really busy, and I disappeared from Metacom Creative for awhile. I am hoping I will be able to find more time in 2011 to get back to posting!
One thing I am really excited about is a Photo-A-Day project that I have started. My goal is simple: Take at least one picture a day. The execution is a bit more difficult. It can be hard to stay creative during the regular Monday-Friday, 9-5 routine, so I am hoping this project will force me to use more of the creative part of my mind throughout the daily monotony. When I feel like I am lacking some imagination, I head over to The Daily Shoot for some ideas.
Here are a few pictures from the first week. I started January 2nd (The project isn’t a New Year’s resolution, because we all know how those turn out!).
As you can see in the picture from January 9th, I also got my hands on a new toy. I picked up an old Argus C3 camera off of eBay and can’t wait to get my first roll developed. It is quite the change from an SLR, with nothing being automatic. It lacks a lightmeter, so I have a feeling I have a bit of learning to do.
As for web projects, I haven’t been doing much freelance. However, in October I got a job as Lead Front End Developer at Bertino Designs in Ontario, California. We just launched our new site, so check it out at BertinoDesigns.com! Work has been keeping me busy and I love the projects that we have been working on.
I will be trying to update Metacom Creative at least once a week with my Photo-A-Day project updates, so stay tuned. Happy New Year!

That photo a day looks like a good way to get your creativity juices flowing. I can see how it may get you to think a little out of the box just to make sure you get some really got photos.
I love that shot of the argus camera. Are you sure it works?

Hi Sire,
I’m hoping the Photo-A-Day will help out. I’m not the first to do it, but it seems like a good concept to me, haha. I have heard about writers trying to write for 20 minutes a day, so I think it is along those same lines.
Although I haven’t gotten any film developed with the Argus yet, it appears to be in great condition. The shutter works, all the dials seem to work, and I had no problems loading up some film. All I have to do now is get out and shoot some pictures to test it!
Ryan, the next thing you’ll be telling us is that you’ll will be developing the film yourself. Now that would be something to see

Hi Mike! Sorry it took me so long to respond. I got the Argus on eBay for about $40 I believe. They’re older, but they’re such solid cameras you can find them pretty easily and very reasonably priced! Good luck!

Of all the pictures, I definitely prefer the flying hawk. In my opinion, you can’t lose capturing animals in nature doing what they normally do…

It’s amazing the power of photography. Just today I was out capturing pictures of the flowers on the tree in my backyard. Trying to capture through my lens what I was seeing with my eyes as the sun beamed through the branches. I hope you post more soon

Hi Lynda,
Thank you for the kind words! As you can tell, I fell behind with my Picture-A-Day project, haha. The good thing is, it got me back into the habit of taking my camera with me everywhere and shooting more pictures.
Do you post your pictures anywhere online? I always love to see other people’s work.
Photo a day is a good concept, it is a nice tool to be a good photographer, because we have to took only a photo but have to wait for a nice scene.
Thanks for the comment! I wasn’t able to follow through completely with the Photo A Day challenge. But it did help me create good habits, like bringing my camera with me more places.
